About Me.
Director | Photographer | Screenwriter | Designer
Hey There! My Name is Taylor Sanford
Born and raised in New England, I now find my self residing in San Francisco. I’m a director, photographer, and writer, and designer. I’ve been exploring the world of storytelling for nearly 8 years, with professional experience spanning about 4 years now. My creative endeavors have allowed me to meet and collaborate with new people fostering new connections and stories along the way.
These connections have allowed me to better understand myself and given me the outlet to explore new forms of narrative. I find it’s all about pushing your own creative boundaries when nit comes to your stories and the mediums you work in.
My photography focuses on connecting with the audience to create a unique story with that viewer. We are all unique in our own ways, which means as the audience, we will bring a new kind of interpretation for the work we are looking at. Our own experiences and preconceived knowledge helps us with our own imagination and connection to something or someone. With a focus in portraiture as well as landscape and lifestyle photography, my gaol is to help connect with those imaginations people may have and to foster that unique connection and help tell a story.
As a filmmaker, my work lies in a different realm. With an emphasis in screenwriting, directing and the occasionally producing, I find myself drawn to the likes of filmmakers such as Rian Johnson, James Wan, Alfred Hitchcock, David Fincher, among many others. I often find myself connected to the genres of horror, action, and mystery thrillers. Through filmmaking I have gained vast experience in overseeing a large number of people at a given time. Weather that managing people in pre-production as a producer or several actors as a director on set. Filmmaking is no easy feat, as someone once told me, “if filmmaking were easy, everyone would do it”. For some reason that’s always stuck with me, why you may ask? Well no matter the final outcome of a film, you learn many valuable lessons along the way. These lessons, translated into experiences, help you navigate the very difficult challenges that may persist in a production, and they also allow you to tighten your skills and give you that preconceived knowledge to help on the next project. (For more about my filmmaking, see my artist statement below).
As a new designer, I find that exploring my interests helps me not only stay creative but also find ways to connect the dots with my photography and filmmaking practices. With experience exploring UI/UX design—mainly with this website, architectural design, and industrial design. These design explorations help me better understand my own self practice but also allow me to gain new skills. Understanding space through architectural design, allows me to better move the camera and a character in a film. Industrial design allowed me to gain a glimpse into a family of products, how does this idea and ideation of a design transform into a brand? How does it carry the themes of a brand message and it’s design attributes?
I currently attend California College of the Arts majoring in film and minoring in writing & literature. This has given me the opportunity to collaborate with many talented filmmakers and artists. As I’m on the final approach i have reflected on my journeys and the next chapters ahead. Everything from a shift in career, to better hone in my skills in marketing, to the pursuit of a PhD in film and media studies as well as literature.
Artist Statement
As a writer and director, I’m fascinated by the idea that seemingly ordinary individuals can commit heinous acts when pushed to their limits. Are we inherently good or bad, or is it a circumstance that defines us? My work often revolves around characters with a singular goal—willing to do anything to achieve it. I constantly ask: What ultimately led them to this moment? Why did they resort to violence?
The human mind is an enigma, a force modern science still struggles to fully understand. Filmmaking exists because we are naturally curious. We tell stories to explore the unknown, to ask questions, and to dissect the psychology behind human behavior. Take serial killers, for example—people are fascinated not just by what they did, but by why they did it. Through film, we can step inside the minds of those who confront the darker side of human nature.
My storytelling is also deeply personal. My relationship with my parents and our differences in life, and in politics—have profoundly shaped my work. Growing up in a household where perspectives often clashed, I was constantly challenged to question things around me. That tension—the push and pull between opposing ideologies—naturally weaves its way into my stories. I am drawn to characters who wrestle with moral ambiguity, shaped by their environments yet desperate to define themselves.
I gravitate toward psychologically complex narratives in crime, action, and mystery thrillers. My influences range from David Fincher’s meticulous studies of serial killers (Se7en, Zodiac) to Rian Johnson’s reinventions of the murder mystery (Knives Out), or the gritty realism of Daniel Craig’s James Bond era.
I strive to craft immersive, thought-provoking stories that unsettle, provoke, and leave lasting impressions—puzzles waiting to be unlocked.
Some fun things about me…
As a coffee connoisseur I like to spend my free time exploring new coffee shops having fun conversations with friends. I of course love watching new movies and TV shows. A current favourite is “John Wick: Chapter 4”, though I love Skyfall. And I also enjoy cooking, when I have time haha :)
As I continue to explore my interests in photography, filmmaking, and design I continue to broaden my horizons and try new things in my work. Seeking to collaborate with as many people as I possibly can.
If you have a project in mind and want to collaborate shoot me a message. Feel free to check out my youtube video on where all it started as well as explore more of my work. :)

In the world of creative endeavors, I dived into the idea of what makes an influence an influence and how that differs from an inspiration. During this reflection I landed on Peter McKinnon as my original influence. One of the main people and artist to influence and inspire me in my journeys as a photographer and filmmaker...ultimently leading me to where I am now.
